Another Christmas, another battle for the coveted Number One spot in the charts. This year could be all-out-war however, as Aardman animations challenge the soon-to-be crowned X Factor winner for the top spot. Entering the ring for the Oscar winning company is Shaun the Sheep.
Shaun first appeared on T.V screens in 1995, making mischief in the film 'A Close Shave', which also featured Wallace and Gromit. Now he is a star in his own right with a popular T.V show on CBBC. Shaun and his farmyard friends are loved by many children worldwide, and have also won a cult following among other age groups.
'Life's A Treat' , like many of its novelty predecessors, is a lively, catchy, and somewhat daft pop record that you'll either love or hate. One thing's for sure, someone, somewhere will be driven to distraction as children happily sing along to Shaun's theme tune for the 100th time. The CD also contains a rather fun selection of remixes. These include a seasonal Christmas mix to get you in the festive spirit, and also a whistling mix for when you get bored of singing.
What really sets this track apart from other records is the video. Proving Aardman's worth yet again, the video is very well crafted, engaging, and funny. Watch the farmer driven mad by his mischievous sheep, rock star dog, and dancing pigs. At last glance this cheeky charm had attracted 5,321 views on Youtube which bodes well for the single's full release on Dec 10th.
Vic Reeves Supports Shaun the Sheep
Press material states that Shaun has the support of comic Vic Reeves in his quest to beat Xfactor to the top of the charts. Vic who voices the song says " I wish Shaun all the best with his song, and I think he has a very good chance of beating the Xfactor winner." Vic is no stranger to the Number One spot topping the charts with another novelty track Dizzy.
Shaun's biggest competition in the charts may come from the eventual X Factor winner, but there is another contender of interest as far as Childrens music goes. Do you remember the sweet, innocent rendition of Over the Rainbow that charmed the nation on Britain's Got Talent? Connie Talbot, the 6-year-old responsible for the performance releases the song on December 3rd.
Although many think the outcome of this chart battle is obvious, at least this year there will be a lot more variety to the Christmas charts.
