The Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009

A Parents’ Guide to the Jonas Brothers Concert

Aug 3, 2009 Dianna Brodine

The Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 is currently making its way across North America. Parents can learn about the opening acts, the stage, the music, and the souvenirs.

Parents of teens and tweens are likely familiar with the Disney Channel sensation, The Jonas Brothers. Joe, Nick, and Kevin are currently touring with their World Tour 2009, featuring songs from all three of the group’s albums. What should a parent expect when attending the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009?

Jonas Brothers Concert Opening Acts

For parents expecting an early evening, the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 has a different bedtime in mind. Before the Jonas Brothers take the stage, three different opening acts entertain the crowd. First up is Honor Society, an alternative band with a current song on the soundtrack for Bandslam: The Movie. Next up is an audience-participation experience with an all-girl group from South Korea, the Wonder Girls.

Finally, Jordin Sparks appears on stage. The 2007 American Idol winner belts out songs from her upcoming album, Battlefield, as well as her self-titled debut, Jordin Sparks. Sparks is a crowd-pleaser for both the younger crowd and the parents who are along for the ride, with a mature voice and an impressive sound. In all, the concert lasts approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Jonas Brothers World Tour Concert Stage

A press release for the tour describes the production as featuring “a massive 140-foot plus stage centered in the arena that aims to give a larger number of Jonas Brothers fans a closer, more interactive live concert than they've ever experienced before. The show will feature cutting edge technology used in a one-of-a-kind circular water screen, multi-color laser effects, motion automated video screens, a giant crane levitating over the audience plus other surprises...”

The stage features a center raised stage upon which most of the action takes place. Two long runways bring the action closer to fans. The center circle of the stage converts into a trampoline at one point, and also serves as the vehicle for delivering a grand piano to the main stage for certain portions of the concert. The runways feature their own surprises, with both rising into the air and (at different points in the show) getting the stage and the lower levels of audience seating a little wet.

The Jonas Brothers World Tour Music

Lines, Vines, and Trying Times, the latest album from the Jonas Brothers, was released on June 29th, 2009. Songs played during the concert from the Lines, Vines, and Trying Times album include Paranoid, World War III, Poison Ivy, and Before the Storm (with a bonus appearance by Jordin Sparks).

Music from previous albums (A Little Bit Longer and the debut album, Jonas Brothers) makes fans happy. Songs include BB Good, Burnin’ Up, Lovebug, and S.O.S. A shout out to the parents in the audience – in the form of Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline - gets parents out of their seats and singing along.

In total, the Jonas Brothers play for about 90 minutes. And the Jonas Brothers actually play – Kevin plays guitar on every song and Nick plays guitar, drums, and the previously-mentioned grand piano. In addition, the Jonas Brothers are accompanied by an impressive array of violins, trumpets, trombones, and saxophones. The full orchestra sound compliments many of the songs, adding a surprisingly adult vibe to a group that caters to the teen and tween crowd.

Souvenirs Available at Jonas Brothers Concerts

Parents should prepare for sticker shock and a surprisingly limited number of souvenir items. The traditional t-shirts are available for $40, with program books and tote bags available for $20. A $10 bill will purchase a souvenir ‘backstage pass’ or a light stick with the concert tour logo.

The bottom line? The Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 is a concert sure to delight the teen and preteen fans of Disney’s music sensation. The orchestral backup and energetic stage show will keep parents entertained, too. At the very least, parents will marvel at the impressively large production, rumored to fill more than twenty trucks when transporting equipment from one show location to the next.
